@christianz2010 This video wasn’t posted to depict “authentic” hunting. This is a series of clips from our south Texas family hunt that we do once/yr. I’m not looking to be authentic. Just happy to get outside and enjoy time with friends and family.

@willdog3 Pointer? Yes I have. But my English setter trained her (OK. She trained me too.) and she was a sweetheart, just like the setter. In the house or backyard both of them thought the reason I slowed down or stopped was to pet them. Once in the field, they didn’t even know me. I couldn’t have petted either of them had my life depended on it. Their focus on finding birds was amazingly intense. Most of the fun of hunting was seeing the dogs in almost intoxicating joy.

@dennisbaldwin Well, Dennis, you have to expect some armchair expert to tell you how much better they could have done and everything you did wrong. With 60 years of bird hunting behind me, I can’t find anything wrong myself… except the “RADAR.” Which looks more like a radio tracking receiver to find which direction to look for wide ranging dogs in heavy cover. If you ever been there you know how valuable it would be.
Looks like a class act to me and dogs that make the day.

@LAMBORGHINI748596 I’ve heard many different perspectives of how people hunt and realize that everyone does it differently. These dogs are “world class”. Google “wild bird hunting” and the #1 link is Mitch Hurt’s website. This is who we always use to guide our hunts. Look up channel “wildbirdhunting” on YouTube and you’ll see nearly 50 videos of Mitch’s dogs. World class.

@Mr1deerslayer The pursuit still exists regardless of how you get to point A from point B. There’s still a lot of “ground time” to flush the coveys and mark them down. Obviously, there’s not one way to hunt so I can understand your perspective. Feel free to post a video response of how you do it.

@christianz2010 We do plenty of walking. Not so sure about running with a shotgun.

@gblu25 You need to do some real hunting. Without a car. Or loads of technology. With the decency to pat your hardworking dog on the head instead of just grabbing him by his neck and throwing him in the cage. Real hunting is when you track your game, and earn it, and eat it. This type of hunting gives hunters a bad name. If it takes you that much technology and that many missed shots to bag a bird, just go get a Purdue roaster. Or get a chicken sandwich at McDonalds & eat it in your truck.

@dennisbaldwin Hunting is “The pursuit of game”. Your technique almost totally eliminates the pursuit, this is why i feel that it is not hunting.

@gblu25 These dogs are not pets. They live to hunt birds, and that is it. Have you ever tried to have a pointer as a pet? not the best pet. All they care about is chasing birds and other small animals. Besides, during the hunt, you usually dont pet your dog, thats for later on after the night settles down. Imagine a police dog. You ever see them get loved on while on the job? No. It keeps them focussed on the game, and not the affection of the owner.

People rid wagons all the time on huge quail hunts. This is how old time people used to do, people ride jeeps to cover lots of ground. if you want to walk 10 or 15 miles + just to be a “real” hunter than fine. There is nothing wrong with the way they are doing this

@Mr1deerslayer Dear “Mr Deer Slayer”, talk to me. What is hunting?

@gblu25 The dog handling was done by Mitch Hurt and he’s one of the best out there. He treats all his dogs with respect and trains them well. Unfortunately you don’t get to see that in this video. Check out his YouTube page youtube.com/user/wildbirdhunting

You talk if there’s one right way to hunt. If so, then post a video and enlighten us. Quail hunting for our family is all about spending time together and maybe we get a bird here or there. It’s not about “bagging” a ton of birds.
