Yes and you have to wear a trench coat if you are in a trench and a sports jacket if you are playing a sport and a jumper if you are jumping etc…

You can wear whatever you want so as long as you are comfortable. I generally wear a softshell or a wind blocking fleece, neither are “ski jackets.” In the spring I usually only wear a vest over my thermal base layer. There’s no law stating what you should and shouldn’t wear, but choose clothing that is appropriate.

A ski jacket is made to repel the wind and to keep you dry. Even on a nice day, when skiing fast, you will feel the wind chill without a jacket. If you were to fall and get snow on your hoodie, that will become damp and cold. A jacket would help to keep you warm and dry in this case. Many ski jackets are made with vents, usually under the arm pits and sometimes on the front, that you can unzip if you get too hot.

Have you considered a thin wind-resistant shell? These are not bulky like a true ski jacket, but they provide the benefits of a wind break and water resistance. Usually I have a thermal wicking layer underneath. I follow that with a fleece layer or something warm. On top, I have a thin windbreaker. On a warm day, I can open the vents on the windbreaker and even take off the middle layer.

If you pick a day when it is not snowing and fairly warm, you could get by without the jacket. Layering is always a good idea. The layers trap body heat and you can take off a couple of layers if you become too hot.

I would recommend a jacket or shell, but you can get by without unless it is a cold, windy, and snowy day.

WEAR A SKI JACKET! Trust me. You may think you will be to warm but you won’t. In the long run you will be much happier if you stay warm. My advice is to dress in layers and if you get hot for some odd reason take one of your layers off. The thing is ski jackets are water proof and without them you can get wet and cold and ultimately get hypothermia. Mild hypothermia isn’t so bad but as soon and you creep into moderate hypothermia you are at a health risk and could die. You may think i am exaggerating but it is better to be safe then sorry.

I use a soft shell. It helps to layer underneath it, but the more layers you use, the less agility you have. Normally, I put on a thermal and then my soft shell jacket and I’m feeling fine. It does get a bit chilly sometimes when you’re on the lift but when I wear more than a thermal under the jacket I start to sweat. You can wear whatever you want, but I find that the soft shell jackets are perfect if you wanna shred hard and let loose.

You can wear what the hell you want. I went to Blue Mountain yesterday (Collingwood, Ontario) and this dude was wearing a t-shirt. I was on the ski lift with him and he said he wasn’t cold.
