Question by Elizabeth Carter: Can I buy a lightweight pole for my tent instead of using trekking poles?
I just bought a aarn pacer 2 lightweight tent. I just found out I need to have trekking poles for this tent. I don’t own trekking poles and would not use them while I walk. Could I buy a lightweight tent that would fit?

Bummer dudet I am surprised you didn’t read the fine print. Yes you could get poles for the tent that would work. You can get replacement poles for most tents at your local sporting goods supplier. But the idea is to cut weight and for rough terrain trekking poles are very handy. It is like having four feet, and if your using two poles already why carry two more for the tent. Check out the cost of replacement poles verses two good used ski poles they are virtually the same as trekking poles at half the cost.

You can buy the tent poles for this tent at a local outfitters store or on line at:

Or maybe you could return this tent to where you purchased it? And get one that doesn’t require trekking poles?
